what does a solution architect do

 

A solution architect is responsible for designing one or more applications or services within an organization and typically is part of a solution development team. He or she must have a balanced mix of technical and commercial skills and will often work with a business architect for strategic direction. The main focus is on the technical decisions made about the solution and how they affect business results. The rest of the development team will then use the information to implement the solution.

A solution architect needs meaningful people and process skills. I am often faced with management, trying to explain a complex problem in simple terms. They need to find ways to say the same thing using different words for different audiences, and they also need to truly understand business processes to create a coherent view of a usable product.
